Am I really affecting carbon emissions?

Nobody is perfect. Everyone has flaws! From now on, emitting carbon dioxide into the environment doesn’t have to be one of yours. Lets work together to become carbon neutral. (Carbon, meaning carbon dioxide, and Neutral -- like, Switzerland). Basically, it’s giving back what you’ve borrowed. In everyday life, we release carbon dioxide incidentally through nearly every electronic and mechanical device we touch.

How do we remove the carbon dioxide that we have already emitted?

We plant trees! Forests actually absorb carbon dioxide and use it to grow. It remains in the trees, and not in the air we breathe. What was previously released can now be captured, and stored in carbon sinks (trees). Nobody can be perfect, but LimeGreen Earth can get you close, and help reduce your carbon footprint!

Reduce your own emissions! There are numerous ways of doing this. Watch less TV, don’t leave your cell phone charging all night, using public transportation… starting to get the idea? Anything and everything helps! For more tips on reducing your emissions check our Tips on Living LimeGreen.

We know you can’t eliminate all the CO2 emissions you are responsible for, so using our carbon calculator, you can calculate exactly how much carbon you need to offset in the pursuit of neutrality. After you’ve figured that out we’ll get you set up with the right offset package.

What is a carbon offset?

Most of the world is in the business of inadvertently producing greenhouse gases, mostly carbon dioxide. We are proud of the fact that we are one of the few businesses offsetting these gases. One carbon offset represents the reduction of one metric tonne of carbon dioxide or its equivalent in other greenhouse gases. All of our projects are verified by the VCS (Voluntary Carbon Standard), which ensures that the projects we support are held to the highest possible standards and accountability in carbon offsetting.

What is carbon sequestration (reduction)?

For starters, we’re not in the business of using big words. We’re in the business of saving the world—somebody’s got to do it! So, let’s talk in terms that we all understand. A carbon credit is actually a unit of stored carbon that has been removed from the environment through one of many different means. (Whether it was through ocean iron fertilization, which promotes growth of carbon-consuming plankton; or modifications made to farming practices which result in carbon sinks forming in the soil, or better yet a new tree). A carbon reduction credit is generated when an entity, to cover costs, sells its abilities to store carbon to buyers who emit carbon.

In essence, anybody who wants to make up for the carbon they emit can decide to offset it by allowing someone else to store an equivalent amount of carbon. With the equivalent amount of carbon sequestered and stored, the buyer has become carbon neutral and has minimized their carbon footprint.

When you support LimeGreen sequestration, we plant trees to sequester carbon emissions for you.
